Thanda Umntu is a live rehearsal performance film by Lolo Vandal - a lyrical, isiXhosa infused meditation on love, compassion, and the human bond. Filmed in an intimate rehearsal room, the piece foregrounds breath, missed notes, and quiet corrections to reveal authenticity; Vandal's raw, composed delivery and shifting between isiXhosa and English invite the audience into a communal practice of ubuntu. Through spare musical textures, brief memory montages, and a spoken-word interlude, the film argues that loving a person for their soul is an ongoing rehearsal, not a finished act, and leaves viewers with a gentle, urgent invitation to practice compassion in everyday life.
