Overview

Archana falls in love with Sukhendu, a serious university lecturer, much to the chagrin of her snobbish mother, for whom Sukhendu is simply not good enough for her daughter or their family. Archana, however, with the approval of her father, gets married to Sukhendu. The mother continues to interfere in the marriage, constantly reminding her son-in-law of his poverty. Archana's problems are aggravated when Sukhendu insists that she sever all ties with her mother. Archana separates from Sukhendu, but she finally accepts her wifely duties and returns home – only to find that it is too late, as Sukhendu has resigned and gone abroad. In 1963 the film took part in the compeititon program of the Moscow IFF. Suchitra Sen got Silver Award for the best actress.
